Institute, besides being an active member of the Young Members Committee.
Our congratulations go to Bryan Robinson, who joined us early in the year from Head Office accident department, on the birth of a daughter in July. July too, saw the departure of Jim Napier our trainee Inspector in the first step of his forthcoming emigration to South Africa. We welcome to replace him Andrew Anderson from the local office of ;he Cornhill

Newcastle
In June 1970 Mr K. T. Whipp, Branch Accident Superintendent, completed 30 years service with the Company and to marl: the occasion he was presented with a Silver Cigarette Box (enclosed photograph shows presentation being made by Mr A. C. Henderson, Branch Manager, in presence of office colleagues).
We offer our congratulations to Mr F. R. Palmer, Assistant Branch Manager on his appointment to

Branch Manager, Liverpool. His stay at Newcastle has been for the relatively short period of 3 years but as we know that both he and his wife have enjoyed being in this area we sincerely trust that his move to Liverpool will be equally successful and enjoyable.
Mr Palmer's successor at Newcastle is Mr D. H. Briggs, at present local Manager Westmorland Office and to him and his family we extend the warmest of `Geordie' welcomes.
Since our last entry in `White & Red', Mr Richard Gray and Mr Keith Pringle have left us for Lancaster and Preston offices respectively. They will now be well settled in, and we extend belated congratulations on their promotions.
More recently, Mr T. Slassor, claims department, has left us for Southern parts, to be more exact, Birmingham Office. From what we have heard the work is very much to his taste but his palate is missing the taste of Newcassel Broon Ale.
Mr J. C. Moat has joined us from the `Household & General' and is now our Resident Inspector at Darlington. We wish him every success in his appointment.
On the sporting side, the Provincial Seven-a-Side football team were defeared `unluckily' 8-3 in the 1st round of the Mallett Shield competition by the `Bradford & Pennine'. On the news of this defeat the girls immediately challenged the gallant losers to a game of netball and the result is still a source of argument in the Office.

Mr K. T. Whipp (second from left) with his colleagues at Newcastle branch.
