Leeds
Once again, weddings seem to form the greater part of our
news. One of of our typists, Margaret Senior, was married
on 27.3.71 at St. Peter's, Morley, to Maurice Seymour and
they are living in a house that they have furnished tastefully.
The unusual feature of this story is that both Margaret and
her husband are totally blind, and so in wishing them every
happiness together in the future, we also express our admiration
of their courage in tackling the not inconsiderable task of
setting up a home. As a wedding present from her office colleagues,
Margaret chose a bedroom rug. |

A few weeks later, Marlene
Fawcett (accident department) was married to Michael Allan
at St. Bartholomew's, Leeds, on the 1st May - an easy date
to remember for future anniversaries. By the choice of a steam
iron as a wedding gift, Marlene showed that she intends to
take her household duties seriously.
On 4.9.71, Susan Kupiecki (motor department) made life easier
for those of us who have not mastered the Polish language
by marrying David Howe at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church,
Leeds. Susan was presented with a set of towels as a wedding
present. |

Congratulations to Anthony Whittaker
who, after three years as Resident Secretary at York, has
now been promoted to become Local Manager of Westmorland Office.
In his place we welcome Colin Dobson from Croydon.
Maidstone
Earlier this year we had the pleasure of a visit from Mr A.
Murdoch who was deputising for the Chairman. Mr Murdoch met
each member of the staff, and the senior members of the branch
and sub-offices enjoyed a most pleasant lunch with him.
Two of our staff were fortunate enough to win holidays as
prizes for winning competitions in which they entered. Pat
Fox of our motor department spent an enjoyable time in Majorca,
and Evelyn Goodwin, a typist who has now left, is going to
Gibraltar in September.
A painting exhibition in Canterbury, contained some works
of art done by Harry Mooney our Local Manager there after
suitable theft precautions had been taken.
During the year Ron Mold, senior Maidstone Inspector, has
been busy building his own sailing dinghy - in his spare time
of course! The hard work proved well worthwhile for in one
weekend the vessel won three competitions in a local regatta,
and Ron now is the holder of three memento trophies.
Douglas Jack of the claims department has been appointed the
Education Secretary of the Local Insurance |
