in his Rugger
footsteps, whilst George has a daughter.
We welcome John Nevin and Louis Renstead to the claims dept.
and by the time this issue of `White & Red' has been issued,
they both should be well and truly married. We wish them both
every happiness.
We congratulate Linda Tarrier on her engagement.
In the sporting field, our mixed hockey team were unfortunate
to lose in the final. We were two all against the Sun Alliance
London, but in extra time we lost four goals and the final
score was z-6. A very gallant effort by our team. In the Mark
Hurll inter-office football cup we were knocked out in the
second round 4-z. Unfortunately, we were one player short
but our team played remarkably well and the spectators were
all for the Provincial.
We have one final retiral - Joe MacFarlane. He was known affectionately
by all as `wee Joe'. Joe joined us 7: years ago as Filing
Clerk and was extremely efficient, running his filing rooms
like a Quartermaster's stores! He never forgot his military
bearing, having been a Horse Gunner for many years. His age
was completely unknown to anyone but we all think he was nearer
8o than 70! He hasn't been enjoying the best of health recently
and we hope now that in his retirement his strength and health
will improve. |

The Annual Golf Outing this year was played on the May holiday
and resulted in a tie between Willie Galt and Harry Backhouse
- they did not play off.
Before the last `White & Red' was issued John Inglis,
our Resident Inspector in Lanarkshire, had retired. He joined
the Company in October, 1949, and spent his whole time as
our Inspector in the Lanarkshire area. John had the odd distinction
of doing better every year right up to and including his last
year. He was |

extremely popular, not only
in the office but with all our Agents. The Branch Manager
presented him with a camera to markthe good wishes of all
his friends in the Provincial. He is now in a broking firm
and so we still see quite a bit of him.
We appear to have had a spate of marriages. Billy Moore to
Dorothy Beveridge, (ex-Provincial), Raymond Christian to Susan
McAdam (both Provincial); Moira Neil to DouglaWe have to report
two proud fathers - Henry McCulloch and George Craig. Henry
has a son whom he hopes will follows Coupethwaite (ex-Provincial);
Ian Porter to Helen C. Snodgrass. |
