Congratulations to Margaret
Stephens of the motor department on winning the `Miss Kendal'
title for 1971. The competition was held during the Kendal
Gathering fortnight, a feature of which was a torchlight procession
through the town. Two Mardi-Gras heads were contributed by
the Provincial depicting Edward Heath and Harold Wilson. Although
not winning any prizes they drew applause from the crowd and
not rotten eggs and fruit as forecast!
On Thursday, 14th October, fortythree Head office pensioners
attended a `get together' in the staff canteen where a delightful
afternoon tea had been prepared for them. They were welcomed
by Mr J. W. Dugdale who said that he hoped this would be the
first of many such meetings. Also present were representatives
of H.O. departments who were able to bring pensioners up to
date with news of the departments and ex-colleagues. Alto- |

most departments settled in their new environments by September.

On the sports field, claims department again won the seven-a-side
