Appointment of New Managers

C. Woodcock A.C.I.I.-Home Accident Manager

T. H. Welland A.C.I.I. -Home Fire Manager

G. Griffin B.A., F.C.I.I. -Administration Manager

Mr Griffin was born in Manchester and was educated at De La Salle College, Salford. After taking an Honours degree in English language and literature at Manchester University he was commissioned in the Royal Air Force and spent two years at Cambridge University qualifying as a Russian interpreter.
In 1954 he joined the Provincial and after training at Edinburgh and Kendal he worked at the Company's branches in Manchester, Preston and Bolton before being appointed Fire Superintendent at Glasgow in 1965.
He later moved to Birmingham as Assistant Branch Manager and then in 1969 returned to Kendal as Assistant Administration Manager.
Married with a daughter and a son, Mr Griffin lives in Kendal.

Mr Woodcock joined the Provincial in Birmingham from school in 1945 and after working in most departments ultimately specialised in accident insurance and was appointed Branch Accident Superintendent in 1965. He moved to Kendal in 1969 on his appointment as Head office Assistant Accident Superintendent and in April 1970 was appointed Assistant Accident Manager. Married with two boys and two girls, Mr Woodcock lives at Low Park, Endmoor.

Mr Welland, who joined the Drapers and General Insurance Company, a subsidiary of the Provincial in 1927, came to Kendal in 1938. From 1945 to 1958 he was in London again and returned to Head office as Profits Superintendent to develop business interruption insurance throughout the country. Apart from a few months in the accident department, Mr Welland has always been concerned with fire insurance. Mr Welland has three children, and he lives at Heversham.
