AXA UK Group Pensioners' Federation
Golfing Society
Mossock Hall Golf Club
Tuesday, 20 September 2005

It was on a beautiful sunny day in late September that a record number of 19 golfers took part in the fourth Annual golf competition for the AXA Trophy. I was delighted that after my plea in the last edition of the POD for some one from the AXA Sun Life Pensioners' Association to join us, Gordon Allison from Sutton Coldfield in the West Midlands took up the challenge. Well done Gordon, and I enjoyed partnering you on the day.

Courtesy of the local Member Brian Clayton we were able to play at Mossock Hall Golf Club in Lancashire. Whilst ideally flat, there were several ponds around the course which seemed like magnets for errant golf balls. However, the standard of golf was good and for the second time in the four-year history of this event Colin Wilson, AXA Provincial, won with 38 stableford points. Colin was closely followed by Keith Smith, AXA Provincial, with 37 points. In third place with 35 points was Brian Clayton, also AXA Provincial.
Congratulations to all three prize winners, and a big thank you to all of the other entrants for making what was a most enjoyable day with plenty of fellowship and good banter.

The golf was followed by an excellent meal in the Clubhouse where we were well looked after by Jackie and her team from the Club. The presentation of prizes followed the meal and this year we were pleased that Peter Moss, Chairman of the Federation of Pensioners' Associations, was able to join us and present the AXA Trophy to Colin.

I have now been involved in the organisation of this event since it's inauguration in 2002 and I have decided to hand over the reins to someone else. Keith Smith readily volunteered to take over and will be arranging the competition at his home club, Silverdale, in the Lake District on Friday 22nd September. Full details will be in the next edition of the POD but if you would like to contact Keith before then, his telephone number is 01524 702 074 (office), 01524 734 511 (home) or he can be contacted by e-mail at jkdsmith84a@yahoo.co.uk
